The average winning score at the Humana Challenge is 27-under, so you’d think it’s a course you can simply overpower but that is not the case.
The recipe to success is hitting fairways and greens - and a hot putter of course!
Past winners include Bill Haas, Mark Wilson and Brian Gay none are particularly long, instead they rely on accuracy and putting.
Tim Clark is a player in the same mould. Last season he ranked 174th for driving distance but second in accuracy.
The 39-year-old put those skills to good use at the Canadian Open where he ranked in the top-5 for driving accuracy, GIRs and strokes gained putting. He won by one shot from Jim Furyk.
A similar performance is bound to put him in the mix at the Humana Challenge, a tournament where he has three top-5s from just five starts.
The South African arrives in decent form after a T30 at the Sony Open, which would have been even better but for a poor final round.
At 66/1 (Stan James) he is a great each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
