Golf Outsider: Dubai Desert Classic

The European Tour stays in the Middle East for the Dubai Desert Classic. We look at some long-shots with a chance of getting in the mix.

Lee Westwood gets his campaign under way in Dubai but with several of the big names potentially rusty, some value can be found further down the field. These are my three picks that go against the crowd.

Dubai Desert Classic Selections

Starting his third year on tour, Romain Wattel is one of the rising stars of the European golf scene. A winner on the Challenge Tour as an amateur when just 19-years-old, he has a huge amount of potential. Last year he finished 12th in Dubai after an opening round of 66; expect him to improve on that result this time round.
Recommended Bet: Romain Wattel at 85.0 (Betfair)

My second selection is another young golfer who won on the Challenge Tour as an amateur – Andreas Harto.  At 24-years of age, his development has taken slightly longer but his third place at the Madeira Open proved he could compete on the European Tour.  Harto finished the 2012 Challenge Tour with four top-10s in six events.
Recommended Bet: Andreas Harto at 540.0 (Betfair)

Brett Rumford is a three-time winner on tour with a good record in the Dubai Desert Classic; he finished 20th on his last two visits. After a solid T22 last week in Qatar, expect Rumford to build on his good form at a course he enjoys.
Recommended Bet: Brett Rumford at 210.0 (Betfair)
