Deutsche Bank Golf Tips: Martin Laird

Winner Already This Year

Overpriced if he recaptures his early season form. T25 in Boston last year.

Following the theme of picking big hitters, Martin Laird is worth a speculative wager at 125/1 with Betfred. After a blistering start to the year, which included a win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Scotsman’s form has become more erratic. A succession of missed cuts have been punctuated with a couple of top-25s including a T11 at the WGC Invitational in August. The quality golf is still there, it is just a bit harder to predict.

A T58 at The Barclays was unremarkable, but he did finish T25 at the Deutsche Bank Championship last year so he can play TPC Boston well. Indeed if it wasn’t for a third round 74 he could have been in contention for a win. Ranking 17th for driving distance on tour, Laird should be in position to hit plenty of GIRs and he ranked T14 on the greens last year, evidence that he enjoys the course.

Like Brandt Snedeker last week, Laird is overpriced because of a few missed cuts. Ranked 25th in the FedEx standings, he is better than his triple figure odds. Back him each way at 125/1 with Betfred and get ¼ the odds for a top five finish.
