The Golf Outsider: BMW Championship

Justin Rose in good form

Our long-shots expert highlights some big prices to look out for at this week’s BMW Championship.

The BMW Championship features the top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standing. Some players will be gunning for a win whilst others will just be looking to finish high enough to qualify for the Tour Championship. With that in mind, it makes it harder to pick outsiders for these last few tournaments, but I think I have found a few value picks at longer odds.

BMW Championship Selections

You cannot argue with Justin Rose’s ability to get over the line on the PGA Tour, especially in the last couple of years. He is a player that tends to stay hot for a few tournaments, which is why his T6 at The Barclays, combined with a T5 in 2007 at Cog Hill makes him stand out value at a triple figure price.

Recommend Bet: Justin Rose @ 100.0

Chez Reavie might seem like an obvious pick with his runners-up spot two weeks ago, but due to the strength of the field we still find him at 120.0. That result wasn’t a flash in the pan, he is on a brilliant run of form since his T5 at the John Deere back in July. If he was a “big name” player he’d be hovering around the 33/1 mark. He has only played at the BMW once, back in 2008 (finishing T33), but I am sure he is raring to make up for his Deutsche Bank defeat.

Recommend Bet: Chez Reavie @ 120.0

Our final pick, Carl Pettersson, has played some consistent golf in the second half of the season, with a T8 at the St Jude in June and a T4 at the Wyndham less than a month ago. His record at Cog Hill is not to be sniffed at either, with a T10 in ‘07, a T4 in ’06 and a T7 in ’04.

Recommend Bet: Carl Pettersson @ 190.0
