BMW Championship Trends

It is round three of the FedEx Playoffs and the BMW Championship visits Conway Farms Golf Club for the first time. We pick out the trends of past winners.

By the end of the BMW Championship, 70 players will be whittled down to 30 for the Tour Championship next week. This is the first time the playoffs have come to Conway Farms Golf Club and course form is thin on the ground.

Luke Donald is a member at the club, DA Points and Chris Kirk came through US Open qualifying at the course in 2008 whilst Patrick Reed finished second in the Western Amateur Stroke Play event in 2009.

With little course form to go on, the focus turns to the last five BMW Championship winners to see if any patterns emerge.

Top-30 All-around ranking
The one thing past champions had in common was they all sat in the top-30 of the PGA Tour’s all-around ranking. A measure of driving, GIRs and putting, it’s aim is to rate a player’s overall golf game.

Top-30 scoring average
Four of the last five BMW Championship winners enjoyed an adjusted scoring average in the top-30 on tour. 2011 winner, Justin Rose, only just missed out ranked 36th.
