Group E Betting Preview

France are without Ribery so perhaps this is the chance for Switzerland to slip in under the radar.

It’s often been said down the years that you never know what to expect when a French team arrives at a major tournament and 2014 will be no different. On Friday, Les Bleus were lamenting the loss of talisman Franck Ribery to injury, but by Sunday they were thrashing Jamaica 8-0.

They are 7/2 (Ladbrokes) to be eliminated after Group E is completed. That would mean that either Ecuador or Honduras qualify in their stead, and that would still be a major shock.

However, Switzerland look a rather more enticing proposition to claim top spot at 11/4 with StanJames. Ranked 6th in the world by FIFA, Ottmar Hitzfeld’s boys qualified without losing a match and their preparations have been low key but efficient.

Both the other teams in the section have drawn with England over the course of the last week which suggests they will be competitive. That said, the bookies make Ecuador nothing longer than evens (Betfred) to qualify while Honduras are way out at 7/1 (BetVictor) to progress.
