Where Are The Shots Boro?
No one is taking fewer shots than Middlesbrough. Deeney and Ighalo can show Aitor Karanka what he is missing.
At some stage Middlesbrough are going to have to start taking some shots if they want to remain in the Premier League. Adjusting for game state the average 8.7 shots per game a joint league low with Hull.
The fact they aren’t in the bottom-3 is because they’ve ridden a hot conversion streak of 43.8%. This isn’t down to good shot locations (they are fractionally better than average) or elite strikers and therefore is unsustainable. We’ve already seen a reversion to the mean in recent games, with three losses and two draws.
Watford have at least shown some promise going forward and have the impressive Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo at their disposal. Over the course of 38 games they will make the difference and unless Middlesbrough suddenly change their approach they are going to lose games like this.
