Southampton Odds 2012-13

Can Lambert torment defences at the highest level?

Back-to-back promotions mean a top flight return for the Saints after a seven year absence. Nigel Adkins faces his biggest challenge yet.

Best Title Odds: 7500/1 (Bluesquare)

Value Bet: 19/10 (StanJames) - To finish in top 15.

Norwich and Swansea have shown the way and their confidence can become Saints’ confidence. If they outperform West Ham and Reading then they don’t need to beat many other sides to win this wager.

Summary:

There’s an appealing look to the summer acquisitions which look intended to compliment, rather than replace, what is already there. The big money was splashed on Jay Rodriguez who could prove an ideal foil for Lambert while Steven Davis and Nathaniel Clyne look to be just what is needed in midfield and defence respectively.

Verdict:

I guess the only danger is that some deluded fans may think staying up will be relatively straightforward after the Canaries and Swans survived with something to spare. It clearly won’t be, but despite some inevitable tough days I think they will be ok. Rodriguez is 4/1 (Boylesports) to be top club scorer in the league which Lambert (4/5 Skybet) will obviously have something to say about.
