Reading v Chelsea Tip

Reading fixtures against Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd have ended 2-4, 5-7, 2-5 and 3-4 this season.

Such has been the upturn in fortunes for Reading lately it’s hard not to get seduced by the 6/1 (Coral) on offer for them to make it five wins on the bounce in all competitions. Chelsea have certainly had some dreadful moments lately, but when all said and done, four consecutive league victories away from Stamford Bridge is still excellent.

With that in mind, I have turned my attention to a different market; BetVictor offer best odds of 9/1 on there being over 5.5 goals in the match and the statistics suggest that could be a steal.

Reading matches against the big teams have been the stuff of TV producers’ dreams so far this season. It was 4-2 to Roberto Di Matteo’s Blues when these sides met in the reverse fixture back in August. And that was just a warm-up where the Royals and entertainment have been concerned.

There was the famous 5-7 clash in the League Cup with Arsenal, and it was 5-2 when the Gunners returned for league duty a few weeks later. Manchester United fought back from behind twice to secure a 4-3 victory at the Madejski Stadium in a match that saw seven goals in one half!

In total, there have been nine Reading matches with five goals or more and it’s not even the end of January. And inconsistent Chelsea have had a fair few lively encounters themselves lately. Six of their last 12 outings have seen at least four goals in the course of 90 minutes. All things considered, another high-scoring thriller seems far more likely than the long-shot odds suggest.
