Palace Can Secure League Status
One place separates them in the league but goal difference (actual and expected) casts a wider gap.
Crystal Palace have been dragged to the edge of a relegation battle after a wretched run of form but they’ve not been terrible, just lacking in confidence.
Alan Pardew’s men haven’t won in the league for 14 games and are only 3 points above Norwich (having played a game less). The gap between the teams might seem small but Palace are the superior side.
Crystal Palace have a goal difference of -8 compared to Norwich’s -21 and a similar story emerges on expected goal difference. Using Paul Riley’s numbers, Palace have an expected goal difference of 1.7 (ranked 9th), Norwich are struggling on -20 (ranked 19th).
Throw in home advantage and this is a game the Eagles should win at 6/5 (William Hill).
