Norwich v Bristol City

Anything but a defeat will lift Norwich into an automatic promotion spot. But they should beware a resurgent Bristol City.

Two form teams battle it out in the Championship tonight with Norwich having a wonderful opportunity to move into the second automatic promotion spot. They currently lie behind Swansea only on goal difference after the Welsh side slumped to a surprise defeat at Derby on Saturday. However, Bristol City have won four on the bounce, and this makes the draw offered at 3/1 by VictorChandler look somewhat irresistible.

With the exception of QPR, who may be uncatchable anyway, it was a wonderful weekend off for the Canaries who also saw rivals Cardiff, Leeds, Forest and Burnley all drop points. The bookies make Norwich strong favourites here at 8/11 but does this underestimate Keith Millen’s rampant side? Bristol City are as long as 22/5 with Bluesquare to claim all three points.

Norwich’s best recent results have come away from Carrow Road with the last two home games ending in disappointing 1-1 draws with lowly Preston and Doncaster. The two games before that on their own patch were both only won with 94th minute winners. This shows how a seemingly decent unbeaten home run has actually been a pretty constant struggle.

Bristol look well-equipped to test the promotion chasers resolve again having scored eleven goals in the run of four straight wins. A fifth consecutive victory does appear unlikely against a Paul Lambert team with just one defeat in 15 league games, but a share of the spoils is backable. At 3/1 VictorChandler have gone somewhat out on a limb, with no other major bookie offering longer than 13/5 on the draw. This looks like a good value bet.
