Newcastle v Man City Tip

The bookmakers have underestimated the challenge City face going to the form team in the league.

There is no doubt that winning the Manchester derby was a massive result but the bookmakers have gone overboard with City’s odds this weekend. They are a best price 8/11 (BetVictor) to beat a Newcastle team that have only lost twice at home all season.

It is not like Alan Pardew’s men have nothing to play for. The 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge was a marvellous result and a top-4 or even top-3 finish is realistic. In Papiss Cisse they also have the form player in the league, with 13 goals in 12 games since his January move to Tyneside.

Newcastle’s excellent season is founded on a strong defence; they have kept a clean sheet in five of their last six games. Success has been achieved by stopping the opposition scoring, with 11 of their 19 wins coming with a clean sheet.

A Newcastle win is tempting at 4/1 (Ladbrokes) but we can improve our odds by backing Newcastle to win to nil, at 9/1 with Blue Square.
