Napoli v Chelsea: First Goalscorer Tip: Edinson Cavani

Cavani: 55 goals in 77 games for Napoli

Three in his last two, and the tormentor-in-chief of Man City in the group stages.

Last week the question was asked whether Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal could put their domestic problems behind them for the Champions League. They lost 4-0 to AC Milan. Now Andre Villas-Boas finds himself under even greater scrutiny as he takes his troubled Chelsea team to Napoli. It looks like a similarly daunting expedition, and the English side again has reasons to be fearful.

Chief among those reasons is Napoli’s star striker Edinson Cavani. The 25-year-old is the standout choice in the first goalscorer market at best odds of 6/1 with WilliamHill. The Uruguayan has 22 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions this season and is as capable in Europe as he is in Serie A. Cavani has scored with all four of his shots on target in the Champions League this season - including twice in the group stages against Manchester City.

The 6ft 2in forward is also in good touch at the moment. He scored twice in the impressive 3-0 victory at Fiorentina last Friday and also in the 2-0 success over Chievo a few days before that. To put the value of 6/1 (WilliamHill) on Cavani in some context; Fernando Torres is only 7/1 (Boylesports) to break the deadlock after 19 matches without a goal.
