Morecambe v Newcastle Tip
The Shrimps beat Wolves in the last round and an under-strength Magpies side looks eminently beatable.
The League Cup throws up a hotbed of opportunities to go for long-price upsets as the big teams rotate their squads with scant regard for the consequences. If they go out, no problem, it eases fixture congestion and allows focus on the bigger competitions.
With that in mind, I’m happy to take the best price 11/2 (WilliamHill) on offer for Morecambe to beat struggling Newcastle. Alan Pardew is poised to rest half of his first team, and it’s not as though the half that does play is showing any kind of form!
I don’t need to see too much encouragement from Morecambe to make this bet feel like value, but there is some regardless. The Shrimps haven’t lost in three outings at the Globe Arena this season (W2 D1) with a 2-0 victory over previously unbeaten Exeter at the weekend offering up particular hope.
