The bookies have decided that another Liverpool win is a formality at best odds of 8/13 (PaddyPower) but at a much bigger price (11/10 Coral) I’d rather bet on there being under 2.5 goals in the match.

This outcome may be deemed as odds-against but the trends suggest it’s highly likely. Of Southampton’s last 11 Premier League fixtures dating back to April of last season, no fewer than ten matches have produced two goals as a maximum. Indeed, so far in 2013-14 Saints fans have only seen a grand total of four goals in four outings.

The case gets even stronger when you factor in the Merseysiders. Of Liverpool’s last four league matches at Anfield, three have ended 1-0 to the hosts with the other finishing 0-0.

Furthermore, with Coutinho and Suarez both out for the Reds, the expectation of a goal-fest is very difficult to justify here.
