Liverpool v Southampton Tip

The Saints score a couple routinely, but average three going in their own net away from St Mary's.

Our long shot for the weekend will be on Liverpool running out 3-2 winners over Southampton at best odds of 25/1 with Betfred. The Saints lost by this scoreline against Manchester United and Manchester City earlier in the season and it could just be time for a repeat at Anfield on Saturday.

The bookies make it nothing longer than 4/9 (Ladbrokes) on the Reds taking three points but at the same time it’s 10/11 (WilliamHill) for both teams to score. It’s interesting that the visitors can be so completely expected to find the net, yet still lose. But given that they have done that six times already this season, perhaps not too surprising.

Southampton have conceded 19 goals in six away outings so far so if Liverpool score three it would merely be maintaining the average. With Luis Suarez in fine form and the Merseysiders coming in with only one league defeat in their last nine it wouldn’t be too surprising either.

For their part, Nigel Adkins’ fighters have scored at least two in six out of 14 PL fixtures. That’s 43% of the time which is impressive; the problem is they have only won half of those times.

The quartet of Lambert, Ramirez, Lallana and Puncheon are buzzing in attack but unfortunately goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga is struggling. Consequently, it could be another afternoon with great moments but little reward for the Saints at Anfield.
