Everton v Liverpool Tip

The Toffees are the better team these days but the bookies have one eye on the history books.

It’s form against recent history in the latest Merseyside derby. Everton have emerged victorious just once in their last 11 PL meetings with Liverpool (W1 D3 L7)  but they have also lost just one of their last 17 top flight outings which I think is the more relevant statistic. A top-five team at 7/4 (BetVictor) to win at home to a side in 13th is too good to turn down.

The Toffees have suffered in too many recent derbies from a combination of bad luck, lack of self-belief and indiscipline; they have seen six home players sent off in the last seven showdowns at Goodison Park. It’s little wonder that the Reds have the recent edge if they’re constantly facing 10 men!

But that sort of run surely can’t go on and there must be more confidence in the home dressing room these days. The Blues finished above the Reds in 2011-12 and the gulf appears to have widened this term.

Brendan Rodgers enters his first derby knowing that Liverpool haven’t secured back-to-back league victories since December 2011. Everton have won six and lost none of their last seven top flight matches at Goodison and that momentum and determination to settle an old score should see them to success.
