England Squad Betting: Micah Richards

William Hill are betting on which players are not going to make the England Euro 2012 squad and there are some strange looking odds floating about. Currently in the betting there are four right-backs who are bigger than evens not to make the squad.

Yes you read that correctly, William Hill think there are four right-backs with a better than 50:50 chance of going to the Euros.

Whatever your opinion of these players, there is no way all four will be going to Poland & Ukraine. You could just about make the case for three, if you argue Phil Jones is a centre back.

Kyle Walker looks the most likely pick. He has enjoyed an excellent season for Spurs winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award and earning his first senior cap. He was in the starting line-up for the international friendly against Sweden, where he was named man of the match. His recent injury worries seem minor with Harry Redknapp quoted as saying, “Kyle will be OK for the Euros.”

Glen Johnson is the most experienced of the quartet with 35 international caps. Roy Hodgson worked with him at Liverpool and it is unlikely he would want to go into a tournament with two inexperienced right-backs.

Phil Jones is a difficult player to judge. His versatility is an attraction and is therefore best left alone from a betting perspective.

That leaves Micah Richards as the most likely to miss out. After a promising beginning, his season has rather tailed off, starting only 1 of City’s last 7 games. Largely overlooked in the Capello era, he hasn’t had the game time to force himself into the frame.

The four players are probably fighting for two places and at 11/10 (William Hill) I doubt Micah Richards will be on the plane to Poland & Ukraine.
