Chelsea v Man Utd Betting Preview

Can Anelka do the business again?

Fans of close title races will be cheering on Chelsea when they take on Man Utd at Stamford Bridge. Another three points for the league leaders would be a hammer blow to Carlo Ancelotti and Arsene Wenger.

The Premier League showdown between last season’s champions and this campaign’s leaders has been billed as the biggest game of the season so far. Chelsea captain John Terry refuses to concede the title, despite the current 15 point deficit, but even he would be forced to throw in the towel if United get a result on Tuesday night.

Chelsea are still to face Ferguson’s men either home or way this season and the possibility that they could still take six points directly off their rivals must explain why some bookies still price them as short as 22/1 for the title. This is while Spurs, sat two points ahead of Chelsea having played a game more, are 250/1 shots. The logic is debatable - two games against United could simply see Ancelotti’s troops fall further off the pace and seriously damage their hopes of even qualifying for the Champions league next season.

For United the situation is considerably more rosy. They are 1/2 favourites for the league but the trip to West London is swiftly followed by a visit to Anfield at the weekend in what will be one of their toughest weeks of the season.

The betting for the game at Stamford Bridge suggests Arsenal may be about to get a much needed pick-me-up following their Carling Cup nightmare. Chelsea are favourites for three points with a best price of just 6/5 with Coral. The draw is a typical 23/10 shot while Man Utd are an eye-catching 14/5 to win with VictorChandler. When was the last time that the Red Devils got odds as long as that when facing a side sat fifth in the league?
