Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are into the last eight; who says the big sides don't take this competition seriously?
For the second time this week Manchester City have replaced their local rivals at the top of a betting list - this time in the Carling Cup. Roberto Mancini’s prolific players put five past Wolves on Wednesday night and were swiftly installed as 11/4 favourites (Sportingbet). United were put in the shadow again, their 3-0 win at Aldershot was simply routine; they are 7/2 with Ladbrokes.
Chelsea and Liverpool survived much tougher tests at Everton and Stoke respectively, before both secured passage to Saturday’s quarter final draw. The Blues are 5/1 (Coral) after enduring extra-time at Goodison Park, while the Reds are also 5/1 (Skybet) having come from behind courtesy of a late Luis Suarez brace.
Arsenal (6/1 Bet365) are yet another big name into the hat after they beat Bolton somewhat unconvincingly at the Emirates. Blackburn (22/1 Bet365) complete the Premier League contingent after a thrilling 4-3 win over Newcastle after extra-time.
Two Championships side are almost assured of glamour ties in the last eight after Cardiff beat Burnley and Crystal Palace saw off Southampton. The Welsh side are priced up at 50/1 (VictorChandler) , with the Eagles tagged as joint outsiders at 50/1 with Betfred.
