Are Crystal Palace Doomed?

Things went wrong for Ian Holloway after the transfer window shut. But shot analysis of Crystal Palace's performances suggest there is still hope.

Second bottom and without a manager, Crystal Palace are 1/8 (Coral) favourites to go down, but is all hope lost?

Using shots on target as a proxy for performance, the picture isn’t so bleak.

Negative supremacy = away team supremacy

The Eagles started the season brightly doing enough to earn draws against Tottenham and Stoke; although these were games they ultimately lost, with better luck they would have five points rather than three.

As Ian Holloway alluded to, the problems starting after the transfer window shut. Crystal Palace have lost their last five league games and didn’t deserve a point in any of them, mustering just seven shots on target in five matches.

If Holloway did lose the trust of the dressing room then a change might be no bad thing. If the new manger can recapture some of Crystal Palace’s early season verve then the great escape isn’t impossible at 13/2 with Skybet.
