York Tips: El Viento
Desperately unlucky when a close sixth at Doncaster on his last start. Has winning course and distance form.
On the opening day at York the field congregated towards the stand’s rail in the two sprint races, suggesting it is the fastest strip on the course. With pace horses drawn high I expect the nearside to hold sway in the 1.30 York.
Drawn in stall 16 of 16, El Viento could have the plum draw. On his seasonal reappearance, he looked desperately unlucky when finishing sixth. He met with interference at almost every stage in the race but still showed a bright turn of foot to make up several lengths on the leaders.
Dropping down in trip today should not inconvenience him as he’s twice won at 5f, including over today’s course and distance. Blinkers are also reapplied having been present for all three of his career wins.
At four-years-old he could still be progressive and he looks generously priced at odds of 16/1 (Coral).
