The Belle Of The Ball
Jellicle Ball wowed ‘sectionalistas’ at Kempton and ran well on her seasonal reappearance at Newbury.
Jellicle Ball is something of a standard-bearer for the sectional community and despite my predilections she is a good bet for the 1000 Guineas (3.40 Sunday).
On her debut at Kempton she ran a closing 3f sectional of 33.7s; (Source: Timeform) anything below 34s is useful and this was a two-year-old having their first start!
She was fancied to do well on turf at Newbury last month and although she lost, she was slightly unlucky. The race wasn’t run at a breakneck gallop (103.1% finishing speed) and she raced further back than the winner.
Adjusting for sectionals, she comes out best and that is without taking into account the strong tailwind, which favoured those racing prominently on the straight track.
She isn’t without a chance and the 11/1 (BetVictor) is a touch big.
