Southwell Betting: The Decider
Southwell survives the freeze and we have a double figure tip that should run close.
Paper favourite Alpha Tauri has to be taken on, especially at 2/1 or less. He had everything go his way over 7 furlongs and made all, this was probably the peak of his talents and it wasn’t expected as he returned at 20/1. Dropping him back to 5 furlongs isn’t obviously going to suit him any better and the quick reappearance is to get him out under a penalty before the big hike in the weights, even if it is an unsuitable race.
With a short price favourite opposed we can make hay elsewhere at bigger prices. Decider caught my eye last time out, it was his first run in over 9 months and he finished a creditable 4th in a seller at Lingfield, beaten by under 3 lengths. That seller was stronger than this grade as he chased home 72 & 64 rated horses. Decider would have been even closer but was badly hampered in the final furlong which cost all his momentum.
The form of the Ron Harris stable is the only concern with this selection but that is more than compensated by the price.
