Southwell Tips: Woolfall Sovereign

Ran well over course and distance after a 10-month layoff and has a good draw.

New Year’s Day provides plenty of betting opportunities but the best of the lot is found on the Fibresand in the 2.40 Southwell.

I remarked earlier in the year how stalls one and two seem to be enjoying an advantage over the rest of the field at Southwell’s 5f track and I’m happy to wade in on that bias again.

Woolfall Sovereign finished a decent fourth over course and distance on his first start in 10 months and I expect he’ll improve for having a couple of runs under his belt. (Incidentally the first two home came from stalls 2 and 1.)

The 9-year-old is a smart all-weather sprinter on his day and although there is a danger he’s regressed with his advancing years, I’m willing to give him another chance, especially from the two-box.

Ignore his run last time out, he was never going to beat the smart Pretend and 6f stretches his stamina anyway.
