Southwell Racing Tips: Takajan

Three-time course and distance winner. Travelled well enough on his last two starts to suggest another victory is imminent.

The 4.20 at Southwell is a low-grade affair with very little winning form on offer. In such races you want to be rewarded for finding the winner, therefore I focus on the horses at bigger prices.

Takajan could prove good value at 8/1 (Betfred) if recapturing some of his best form. Last winter he picked up two wins over course and distance at a higher grade before going off the boil. His record on turf or polytrack is abysmal and any form away from Southwell can safely be ignored.

He has finished sixth on his last two runs on the Fibresand but both were better than the bare results suggest; travelling well without quite finishing his races off. It might be that he takes time to get fit, or more likely he is just inconsistent. Either way he showed enough encouragement to suggest there is another win in him.
