Southwell Horse Racing Tips: Suddenly Susan

Won over course and distance recording a fast time. Returned to that level last time out when a close third at Catterick.

A seemingly lowly 0-65 handicap, the 12.20 at Southwell is a very strong race for the grade and will probably produce several future winners. At the current prices, Take Cover has to be swerved. He won a very moderate maiden in an unspectacular time. Having only his second run, he has plenty of time to improve but the 9/4 is not enough reward for the uncertainty.

A more solid prospect is Suddenly Susan at 8/1 with Ladbrokes. A previous course and distance winner, her best form is on Southwell’s fibresand. In August she beat Brio (who runs in the 12.50 today) in a quick time. She proved that run was no fluke by running two equally fast times in her last two outings. At Catterick she travelled well for a long way before veering left and throwing the race away at the finish. A return to a flat track should eradicate that issue.

Dandy Nicholls historically excels on the all-weather with an 18% strike rate. Although jockey Leonna Mayor was unable to keep her horse straight at Catterick, she is generally good value for her claim with an 18% strike rate for the yard and having won on the horse before.
