Southwell Tips: Rambo Will

Has plenty of early pace but not been getting home over 6f. Has run well at Southwell before and drop in trip is a positive.

Recent winners on Southwell’s five-furlong track have tended to blast off in front and never get headed. Early pace is king and that narrows the field down to a handful of potential winners.

Spic’N’Span has a terrific record at the track and has shown enough form to suggest he will go well on his return to the fibresand. However the horse that really interests me is Rambo Will.

He’s only raced twice at Southwell but ran blinders both times. He finished second behind Six Wives in December 2011, when badly drawn, and was beaten only 2.75 lengths in a class 4 handicap last November.

He recorded Racing Post Ratings of 76-73 for those two runs, yet races off a mark of 60 this afternoon.

Rambo Will hasn’t quite been getting home over 6f this winter, always showing his customary early speed before folding in the last furlong. A drop back in trip and a switch to a speed-favouring track should work in his favour though and he is overpriced at 11/2 with Betfred.
