Finished first and second in two starts at Southwell and his poor run of form is because he rarely got his preferred conditions in 2013.
Novalist endured a difficult 2013 but he had enough excuses to get another chance in the 3.30 Southwell.
At his best with cut in the ground, he struggled during the dry summer only once getting his optimal conditions. That came at Newcastle on his last start in September but he went off too fast and faded badly in the last furlong.
