Southwell Horse Racing Tips: Monsieur Jamie

Has won three times over course and distance. Well drawn and should be even better after maturing over the summer.

With 13 runners in the 2.50 at Southwell the draw can play a significant part. In the last 12 months, a high draw on the stand’s side has been favoured, particularly on the straight course. Horses drawn low are forced to race nearer the far rail and that definitely looks the slowest part of the track. For that reason Captain Scooby in stall two is opposable.

Much better drawn in stall seven, Monsieur Jamie can add to his excellent record at the track; his record over course and distance is 1121U. His one legitimate defeat, I’m ignoring the time he unseated, was against the well handicapped Even Stevens who was racing off a mark almost 30lbs below his true ability.

This three-year-old finished sixth last time out but that was over six furlongs at Kempton, not his ideal conditions. It was also his first run after a six-month break. It looks like his season has been geared around an all-weather campaign at Southwell and this is an ideal race to get the ball rolling.
