Southwell Tips: Minister Of Fun

Won an ordinary maiden in a good time, 0.7s slower than the winner of a class 3 handicap on the same card carrying less weight.

The 3.35 Southwell has left me in a quandary because Minister Of Fun is a massively underrated horse but why not exploit his mark at a lower level?

Last time out he won a weak maiden but despite carrying more weight, he recorded a time only 0.7s slower than a good quality class 3 handicap on the same card.

His final 3f sectional was virtually identical to that of class 3 winner Guishan (rated 81) and the handicapper has given Minister Of Fun a big chance with an opening mark of 67.

It is the sort of mistake Scott Dixon would normally exploit but rather than find a 0-70 handicap he’s pitched him in a 0-85.

Either opportunities for the horse are few and far between on the Fibresand or the trainer rates him very highly. At 13/2 (William Hill) he is worth the risk.
