Southwell Tips: Mataajir

Mataajir has plenty in his favour and looks the one to beat in the 1.40 Southwell. His record at the track is 112 and although his successes have come over further, he should cope with a return to sprinting.

Two starts ago he finished a good second over 6f at Wolverhampton, beaten just 0.75 lengths. He was held up that day and although he had to be niggled along 3f from home, he didn’t look too badly outpaced. A return to a slower surface and more prominent tactics should suit him.

With a decent draw and his stable in form, he looks the best bet in the race at 3/1 (Paddy Power).
