Southwell Horse Racing Tips: Luscivious

Go back 16 months and Luscivious won a class three handicap over course and distance by four lengths. If he can get anywhere near that form he should demolish the class five field in the 3.40 at Southwell.

To temper enthusiasm slightly it must be noted that Luscivious has only raced twice since February, a sign that he has suffered from some sort of injury. He returned to Southwell at the start of December and, despite a tardy start, he retains plenty of early dash as he duelled for the early lead.

His lack of fitness, it was his first run in 112 days, told towards the end of the race as he couldn’t sustain the strong pace, finishing seventh. It was still an encouraging run as it came in a higher grade and he was poorly drawn in stall one.

I would expect him to step up significantly on that form, whilst the handicapper has kindly dropped him 3lbs since his last run. That makes him eligible for this weaker 0-75 handicap, a level below his true ability. The 7/2 with Boylesports could look generous if he runs out an easy winner.
