Southwell Horse Racing Tips: Lucky Art

Southwell is a track that inherently favours prominent horses; the deep Fibresand surface makes it harder for horses to quicken, therefore favouring the galloping front-runner. Lucky Art is exactly one of those horses and at 13/2 (Ladbrokes) he can take the 3.20 race.

Having recently raced in claiming company, a switch to a class four handicap might look like too steep a rise, but that is the wrong conclusion. Last time out at Kempton he finished ahead of three horses rated in the 80s and two rated 77.

It was the same in his other two claiming starts, where he lined up against horses rated in the 80s and even 90s. His last three speed ratings have all been at a level comparable with a class four handicap. I have no concerns that the competition is too stiff.

Lucky Art’s early speed is superior to anything in this field, which should allow him an uncontested lead. As long as jockey Justin Newman doesn’t go too quick, he should never be headed.
