Southwell Tips: Katy’s Secret

Ultra consistent this year, winning twice at six furlongs. She is lightly raced and has proven course form – she looks the one to beat.

The line-up for the 11.55 at Southwell mainly comprises badly handicapped horses so it is no surprise to see them taking their chances in a claimer. Ingleby Arch is a useful performer at Southwell but at the age of eight, he seems to have lost a couple of gears. He got outpaced last time he ran over six, albeit in a better race, and I think he is better suited to seven nowadays.

The bookmakers seem to have underestimated Katy’s Secret at 9/1 with Bet365. She has finished in the top three in six of her last seven races, and would have made it 7 from 7 if she hadn’t been badly hampered on her last start.

A return to the fibresand should be no bother as she won at Southwell on her only start when a three-year-old. She is also a strong traveller so should enjoy the relentless gallop at the course. If that wasn’t enough trainer William Jarvis has a marvellous record at the track with a 29% strike rate for his runners. This horse won’t remain a secret for much longer.

*A non-runner after posting meant the odds were reduced to 6.85/1.
