Southwell Tips: Even Stevens
Four wins over course and distance tasting defeat only once; in a much stronger contest than this.
With four wins from five starts over course and distance, it is difficult to look beyond Even Stevens for the 3.50 Southwell.
On official ratings he is the best horse in the race, his mark of 93, is 3lb higher than El Viento and a massive 11lbs better than the third best horse. Being a handicap he has to give weight to all his rivals, but it illustrates the gulf in class.
Last time out, he ran a fine fourth behind Tarooq over 6f, a trip that stretches his stamina. Back to his optimal distance, on his favourite surface. he should prove very hard to beat at 7/4 (William Hill).
