Southwell Tips: Dickie Le Davoir

Slow conditions will play to his extra stamina. Proved he’s in form when beating Southwell specialists on his last visit.

The 4.00 at Southwell revolves around two horses who have both been contesting better races. Suddenly Susan and Dickie Le Davoir have run well in claimers recently, finishing ahead of horses with much higher handicap marks. A return to handicapping represents an ease in grade, despite the class level remaining unchanged.

The horses in question have contrasting racing styles. Suddenly Susan likes to blast off with Dickie Le Davoir preferring to come from last to first. Usually front-running tactics are favoured at Southwell but with the first hard frost of the winter conditions could favour Dickie Le Davoir.

Clerk of the course Roderick Duncan tweeted this morning: ‘It’s freezing, the track is being power harrowed as the day time temperature is not forecast to rise very early. Times will be slower today.’

This will make the race much more of an endurance test, great news if you are Dickie Le Davoir and need a true test of stamina. At 13/2 (Betfred) he is also the longer of the two in the betting, making him the obvious section.
