Southwell Tips: Decent Fella

First try on the fibresand but his best results have come on soft turf and his sire’s offspring have a good record at the track.

Decent Fella has run some fair races on the all-weather this season but his first try on fibresand could see him improve enough to win the 3.25 Southwell.

Overall, his form on the polytrack has been ok but I have a suspicion he will enjoy the deeper surface at Southwell. His best performances in 2012 came on soft and heavy turf at Ascot and Newmarket respectively. The Racing Post awarded him a rating of 90+ for those two performances, which makes him tremendously well handicapped racing off 79 today.

His pedigree also suggests he will handle the fibresand. His sire Marju has a 12.9% strike rate at Southwell with his progeny, slightly above his career average. At 14/1 (Stan James) the value is on Decent Fella.
