Southwell Tips: Colourbearer

Some of his best performances have come on the fibresand and overpriced on his return to Southwell.

Hellbender takes a big drop in grade after his second place in class 4 company but from a wide draw, there isn’t much fat in his current price. At more workable odds Colourbearer is the attractive bet in the 4.50 Southwell.

He’s been consistent this winter, winning three starts back at Wolverhampton but on the face of it he is an exposed, moderate handicapper. However, he’s been unable to race at Southwell for most of the winter and a switch to the fibresand could turn him into a different horse.

In his 32 careers starts he’s been award a Racing Post Rating in the 70s on four occasions, two of them happen to have come at Southwell. In 2011, he hit a mark of 75 twice on the fibresand, winning a class 6 handicap and then finishing third at class 4 level.

His only flop at the track came last July, but the stable were struggling at the time with Milton Bradley sending out only 1 winner in 49 races. With his trainer in much better form, he looks the value at 10/1 (Bet365).
