Southwell Tips: Clear Spring

Won three of his last four starts and looks better than this grade.

On all figures, Clear Spring is racing in a grade below his true level of ability. In racing parlance, that makes him ‘well handicapped’.

He has won three of his last four starts and until he is forced to race at his correct level, he will continue winning. Last time out he was a successful tip at Brighton and at a bigger price he must be backed again in the 8.35 Southwell.

On my speed ratings, he ranks as a 70+ horse and that is backed up by the Racing Post Ratings who gave a mark of 70 for his last performance. Ultimately, I think he will end up racing in class 4 handicaps for horses rated 0-80. Thanks to a generous official rating he gets to race below that level today and looks the best bet at 4/1 (Paddy Power).
