Southwell Tips: Beacon Tarn

Won her maiden over course and distance in a good time and has an excellent fibresand pedigree.

Sir Geoffrey is the obvious favourite in the 3.00 Southwell given his good course record but if there is one horse that screams ‘fibresand specialist’, it is Beacon Tarn.

Eric Alston’s filly won her only course and distance start by 3.75 lengths and although it was an ordinary maiden she stopped the clock at 58.71s. This compares favourably to the 60.61s recorded by Sir Geoffrey in his latest win.

Beacon Tarn has since run well at Wolverhampton but a look at her pedigree suggests she will be much better suited by the return to the fibresand.

Up until March 2013, her sire Shamardal had a 25% strike rate on the surface with his offspring, whilst her dam’s progeny have finished 1321217 at Southwell.

We are talking about a small sample size but Beacon Tarn could be one to follow in Southwell sprints this winter.
