In five furlong races at Southwell, often the first name on the shortlist is Spic’n’Span. He has won seven times over course and distance and relishes the deep fibresand surface. A one-dimensional front-runner, if he can dominate the field he is very hard to peg back.

It is not just the track that is crucial to the horse; it is the quality of race. He struggles in anything higher than a class six. Better horses are more capable of matching his early pace, leaving him a sitting duck.

I don’t see anything particularly unexposed in today’s field and he should be able to dictate the race. Odds of 9/2 on an evens money chance is excellent value.
