Southwell Tip: Landing Night

Southwell Tip: Landing Night

Won only start over course and distance and potentially a Fibresand specialist. Best on a sharp track and has won in higher grade.

The 2.30 Southwell is a fascinating match-up between Berlios and Landing Night. Both have 100% records over course and distance (1/1) and both their victories came early into their 3-year-old careers.

Berlios won 285 days ago and that was his last start whereas Landing Night is approaching the two-year anniversary of his win.

Landing Night might be the less exposed of the pair (although both are unexposed on the Fibresand) but he has race fitness to his advantage. Last time out he ran a fine race to finish fourth at Wolverhampton, beaten only 2 lengths and in a fast time for the grade.

Held-up from stall 8, he tracked a solid gallop but things went wrong after his jockey went for an ambitious run up the inside rail and found his path blocked. Despite this issue, he still clocked the second fastest closing sectional.

A 3-time winner at Catterick, he seems to save his best for sharp tracks and having won in a higher grade already in 2016, he is the best of the unbeaten Southwell duo.

*Returned SP of 6/1
