Southwell Races Tip: Steel City Boy

A win and a second since a switch of yards has revitalised this all weather stalwart.

The 4.55 at Southwell is typical of the weak all weather events run during the summer months and one Steel City Boy should mop up. Since he moved to Garry Woodward he has recorded a first and a second place and looks much improved.

Normally rated in the high 60s this horse is only rated 59 and has plenty of winning to make up for before he reaches his peak. The switch in yard has also coincided with a change in tactics. Previously a hold up performer over five, he now races prominently over six furlongs. The change has worked. His last run was a three-length romp on turf, only his second win on the grass in 34 attempts.

Far superior on the all weather, he ran a close second behind Cape Of Storms in a 0-70 race over course and distance two runs ago. Today he contests a 0-60, a significant drop in class.

Drawn in stall five he has the perfect position to attack and try make all. The competition is not up to much and he looks more than a worthy favourite at 4/1.
