Southwell Horse Racing Tips: Global Village

Record of 131 since switching to Brian Ellison. At the top of his game and still fairly handicapped.

When exposed horses suddenly show dramatic improvement, especially on the clock, I’m always sceptical. Unless I can find a sensible explanation I will not back them. Global Village is one of those horses where it all adds up for the 1.30 at Southwell.

In his last run, a win over course and distance, he clocked a seriously good time. A repeat of that performance makes him a two-length winner on my ratings, but at the age of six where has this improvement come from.

A quick look at his training history and it becomes obvious. On the 1st October 2011, he moved to Brian Ellison and has finished 131 for his new trainer. Any runner Ellison has on the all-weather must be respected; he has an 18% strike rate, improving to 24% at Southwell. A tremendous record achieved with mainly moderate horses.

The improvement in this horse looks genuine, although you could argue it is only a return to form as Global Village has won off a 3lbs higher mark in the past. For once, reality backs up the speed data and at 11/4 (Bet365) he looks comfortably the best bet in the race.
