Southwell Betting Tip: Final Salute

This horse is going the right way, with two wins in his last four races over course and distance.

It’s the little and large show in the 4.40 at Southwell. The favourite Attrition is a gigantic specimen; understandably he wasn’t raced until he was three but is making up for lost time. A course and distance win makes him favourite for the race but he failed to win a 0-50 race on his last outing. You feel he has to be gobbling up those types of races if he is to win this 0-65.

My selection is the complete opposite, the diminutive little sprinter Final Salute. Once a fair juvenile, he is recapturing that sort of form on the all weather this winter. His profile is a bit in an out with two wins and two woeful efforts in his last four runs over course and distance.

If you take his most recent run, the form is rock solid. Two horses he beat that day have since won their next races, one in a higher grade. Final Salute won in a good time and he has the form already in the book to be capable of winning this race.
