Skybet Dash Tips: Zalty

Beaten only half a length in a valuable handicap at the Curragh when he almost overcame a four length draw bias.

The 3.30 York is a strong renewal of the Skybet Dash and the home contingent will have their work cut out winning the race.

Zalty was desperately unlucky on his last start at the Curragh missing out on the £50,000 first prize by virtue of the draw. David Marnane is looking for compensation and the £31,000 on offer should soften the blow.

Green circle: Line of Reason (winner)

The still above was taken at the 3f pole and it shows the disadvantage of the low drawn horses. From stall 7, Zalty was left to race with the slower far side group, whilst Line of Reason (drawn 18) got a beautiful tow into the race on the nearside.

Without sectional timings it’s hard to be 100% accurate, but visually Zalty appeared to be at least four lengths behind the eventual winner at this stage. To close the gap to half a length at the line is a fine performance.

Of the low drawn horses only Intensical and Yeeoow have raced since but they improved 10lbs and 6lbs respectively on their next starts according to Racing Post Ratings.

Zalty has risen 6lbs in the handicap but that underestimates the bias he overcame at the Curragh.
