Sandown & Wolverhampton Betting Guide

We preview the big races of the weekend with the Imperial Cup at Sandown and the Lincoln trial at Wolverhampton both live on Channel 4.

3:15 Sandown Imperial Cup Handicap Hurdle Cl1 2m110y
The Pipe family have farmed this event in recent years winning five of the last ten renewals. David Pipe saddles Master Of Arts (6/1 Bet365) although that seems plenty short enough considering it is his first race over hurdles for three years. You are taking a price with the Pipe reputation built in.

There are several lightly raced horses making the form difficult to gauge. Ile De Re fits into that category having only his fifth start over timbers. A useful flat horse, he races off a featherweight 10-3 and could be better than his handicap mark.

Selection: Ile De Re at 8/1 with Bet365

3:30 Wolverhampton Lincoln Trial Handicap Cl2 1m141y
The flat turf season is on the horizon as Wolverhampton hosts its annual Lincoln trial. In a wide open betting contest you could make a case for several of these.

Prime Exhibit (13/2 BetVictor) did well to finish third in the race last year after being hampered at the first bend. After 126 days off the track he might need the run, with the Lincoln his main target.

Outside the top two once in five starts, Mia’s Boy has to be respected with such an excellent record at the track. He beat Loyalty (8/1 Betfred) over course and distance back in December and the form looks rock solid.

Selection: Mia’s Boy at 7/1 with Betfred
