Redcar Tips: Arganil
Finished second in a similar race last year and should capitalise on his sliding handicap mark.
The betting for the 4.15 Redcar has a peculiar shape, as the top three horses in the market are all questionable. Whozthecat is better over 5f, Arrys Orse only has a maiden victory to his name and Able Master has shown absolutely nothing for over two years.
This creates value almost everywhere else in the field but I’m plumping for Arganil at 33/1 with Ladbrokes.
People will dismiss him because he hasn’t won on turf since 2008 but that doesn’t tell the whole story. After winning three listed races on the all-weather, his mark shot up into the hundreds making it impossible for him to win on the turf.
He is racing off 82 today, a rating he has gone close with before. In July last year he finished second over 6f at Thirsk off an identical mark, looking slightly unlucky when hampered in the final furlong.
Today’s race is easier and given a chance by the handicapper Arganil looks capable of winning.
