QIPCO Champions Day Preview

Glory Awaits On Champions Day

It is the richest day's racing ever staged in Britain. Champions Day at Ascot brings us five Group contests including the QE II and the Champion Stakes.

1.50 Long Distance Cup (Group 3) – 2m
The run of Cup victories for Opinion Poll’s came to an end at Doncaster. Conceding 17lbs to the winner was beyond him but he still ran a fine race in defeat, he is 5/2 favourite with Victor Chandler. Ascot Gold Cup winner Fame And Glory is next in the betting at 11/4 (Betfred). His recent two runs have been poor with the drop back in trip not a good enough excuse. His form is a concern.

2.25 Sprint Stakes (Group 2) – 6f
Out tipster has gone with Deacon Blues and it looks like a two horse race with Moonlight Cloud 10/3 (Bet365) the biggest danger. Golden Jubilee winner Society Rock appears overlooked in the betting at 6/1 (Bet365), having won over course and distance at the Royal meeting.

3.00 Fillies’ and Mares’ Stakes (Group 2) – 1m4f
Crystal Capella 8/1 (Boylesports) looks to win the race for the third time in four years; the trip, the ground and the track are all in her favour. The lightly raced Ferdoos is 7/2 favourite (Bet365), but having not seen a racetrack for 140 days she looks opposable. Oaks winner Dancing Rain 11/2 (BlueSq) looks strong on her classic form. Whilst Banimpire 10/1 (Bet365) is a hardy sort, having won six times this season. It all adds up to a tricky looking race.

3.35 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Group 1) – 1m

4.10 Champion Stakes (Group 1) – 1m2f
An excellent race closes the BBC’s live coverage. Snow Fairy 8/1 (Bet365) and So You Think 5/2 (Boylesports) both ran creditably in the Arc, but you would fancy Aiden O’Brien’s colt to turn around the form after a luckless passage at Longchamp. Green Destiny has progressed through the handicap ranks and looks worthy of this exalted company despite his odds of 22/1 (Victor Chandler). Godolphin saddle two interesting runners in Dubai Prince 9/1 (Coral) and Casamento 33/1 (Victor Chandler), both lightly raced and full of potential.
